✍🏼 AI PROMPT CORNER
Metadata doesn’t have to be a headache. Here’s how to tackle it like a pro.

So, your track is finished, and you’re ready to release it. Congrats!
But now comes the not-so-fun part: filling in music metadata.
If you’ve ever done this, you know it’s repetitive, time-consuming, and honestly, a bit of a headache.
But here’s the thing—accurate metadata is crucial for getting your music discovered.
The problem? It’s a huge administrative burden, and it shouldn’t have to be.
That’s why I’ve been working on something to make this easier.
Here’s a prompt you can use to figure out exactly what data you need when uploading your tracks (includes step-by-step guides etc. too).
(Please note: I’m not a metadata expert, do let me know if something feels off)
____
Copy & paste the prompt below and put it into ChatGPT.
Make sure you use the “Search” toggle.
Act like a professional music distribution consultant with expertise in digital music platforms. Provide a detailed and organized table comparing metadata requirements for Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music. Include all essential and additional music metadata fields (standard and platform-specific), required image sizes, and accepted audio file formats.
Break down the response into these sections:
1. Comprehensive Music Metadata Fields – List all essential and additional metadata fields.
* Essential Music Metadata:
Track Title, Artist Name, Album Title, Release Date, Genre, Label Name, ISRC, UPC/EAN, Copyright Information, Composer(s), Producer(s), Featured Artists, Track Number, Explicit Content Flag, Language, Territories of Distribution, Artwork, Lyrics, Mood/Theme/Style Tags, Parental Advisory, Version/Mix Information, Primary Artist Role, Publisher Information, Recording Year, BPM, Key, Subgenre, Contributors, ISWC, Release Type.
* Additional Music Metadata:
Total Tracks, Disc Number, Total Discs, Lyricist(s), Remixer, Engineer(s), Mixing Engineer, Mastering Engineer, Session Musicians, Arranger, Catalog Number, GRID (Global Release Identifier), Rights Holder(s), Mechanical Rights Society, Performance Rights Organization (PRO), Audio File Format, Bit Depth, Sample Rate, Bitrate, Duration, ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier), Cover Art Dimensions, Cover Art Format, Artist Image, Banner Image, Record Label, Original Release Date, Digital Release Date, Country of Origin, C-Line, P-Line, Occasion, Recording Location, Recording Date, Recording Engineer, Mixing Studio, Mastering Studio, Original Release Year, Barcode, Digital Distributor, Physical Distributor, Management Contact, Booking Agent, Publicist, Website URL, Social Media Links, Lyrics Language, Instrumental, Acoustic Information, Live Recording, Remastered Version, Compilation, Soundtrack, Podcast Episode, Audiobook Chapter, Release Notes, Liner Notes, Dedication, Mood Tags, Theme Tags, Occasion Tags, Tempo Description, Danceability, Energy Level, Speechiness, Acousticness, Instrumentalness, Loudness, Valence, IPI (Interested Parties Information), Matrix Number, Rights Agreement, Synchronization Rights Holder, Publishing Company, Administrator, Territory Restrictions, Release Format, Exclusive Release, Pre-order Date, Sales Start Date.
2. Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Metadata – Provide a clear, actionable process for preparing and organizing metadata.
3. Platform-Specific Guidelines – Outline clear instructions, do’s and don’ts, and common mistakes to avoid for each platform.
4. Advanced Metadata Optimization Tips – Offer expert strategies for improving discoverability and audience engagement.
5. Additional Resources – Recommend tools, tutorials, or communities for learning more.
Important Instruction:
In Section 1, group the essential and additional metadata fields into logical sub categories (e.g., Basic Track Details, Contributors and Credits, Identifiers and Codes, Audio and Visual Specifications, Rights and Ownership, Marketing and Distribution) and provide a 6–10 word explanation for each field. Make sure that each metadata field is categorised and explained. Do not leave any out please.
Take a deep breath and work on this problem step-by-step.
ℹ️ How do you use this prompt?
Copy the prompt into an AI chatbot like ChatGPT (use the Search function) or Perplexity (use PRO toggle).
The brackets indicate instructions for the AI to act as a music distribution consultant and provide a structured response.
Replace or modify sections (e.g., platform names or focus areas) to tailor the output to your needs.
The AI will generate a detailed, organized table and guide based on your request.
Here’s the output:
I used ChatGPT 4o with their Canvas feature. It creates a CSV table for you that you can modify.

Once you’re happy with the table? Feel free to download.

Then, ask ChatGPT to generate the rest of the sections for you.

P.S. I’m also thinking about building a prompt / automation workflow that could help you fill out music metadata sheets.
Imagine cutting down hours of work to just a few minutes.
If you have any metadata sheets you'd like to share for specific platforms (Spotify, Tidal, Amazon, YouTube, Apple), hit reply and send them my way.
Creating and inputting metadata shouldn’t take up hours of your time.
Let’s make this easier for everyone.

WHAT YOU LEARNED TODAY:
Life’s short—spend time with loved ones. Work can wait; memories can’t.
Metadata is key for music discovery. Use this prompt to simplify it.
Share your (blank) metadata sheets to help create a universal solution for everyone.
We’re at the end!
Speaking of making things easier, let’s take a quick detour to the 80s. Remember Beverly Hills Cop with Eddie Murphy?
That movie was all about solving problems with wit, charm, and a little bit of chaos.

Think of music metadata like Axel Foley’s mission.
It’s a puzzle, but once you crack it, everything falls into place.
And just like Axel, you don’t have to do it alone.
Let’s tackle this together and make it as smooth as Eddie Murphy’s one-liners.
Always rooting for you,
